Baccarat is one of the easiest uk casino table games to learn. It is probably the simplest of all the casino games to learn. This is the glamorous game that you see in the movies, the game of James Bond and the rich and famous. This is why many people shunned the game, thinking it wasn’t for them. It was only a game for high-rollers. The game is finally managing to shed this image as more people become interested in it. Still the game can involve high-stakes betting. This is why you’ll usually see guards around the baccarat area. There is not much skill involved in the game. It is basically a game of chance.
The rules of baccarat are not that hard to learn. The object of the game is to come as close to nine as possible. The value of the cards is determined as follows: tens and picture cards are valued at zero, aces count as one and two through nine counts as face-value. When you add the value of the two cards in your hand, if the total is greater than ten, you drop the first digit. For example, if you have a seven and a four, they are valued as one, since the first digit of the eleven is dropped. Totals of eight and nine are called “natural”. A nine is the only number that can beat an eight. If you have two cards that total nine that is a perfect hand. There are no draws when a player has natural because the game is over. If there is no natural, then the participants draw one card, if required to do so. This determines the winner, the hand that comes closest to nine.
In the game, players bet on one of three things: player, banker and tie. The house will take a commission whenever there is a bet on the banker. The banker is the hand that is dealt last. This tells you that the banker hand has the advantage and that the bet on the banker is one of the most popular bets. It may or may not be a casino staffer that plays the hand of banker. Each hand is dealt two cards. In a casino there are two player hands and one banker hand. Online, there are usually just two hands: player and banker. If you are in a virtual casino you will find the baccarat tables separate from the rest of the playing area of the casino. Many times, the baccarat area will be cordoned off from the rest of the casino. The baccarat table at the casino will have three positions, one for the dealer and two for two players. The table will usually accommodate about fourteen gamblers, even though there are only three hands that play.
If you bet on the banker or the player and win, the house pay one to one, even though there is a commission, of usually five percent, for a bet on the banker hand. Wins on a tie bet can pay eight or nine to one. Check the house rules to determine the payoff ratios. They can vary from establishment to establishment. There are also rules pertaining to the player and banker hands so the play is more or less mechanical. If the player has a total of six or more with his first two cards, he is required to stand. If his total is five or less, the player is required to draw a card. The banker must stand if his first two cards total seven or more. If his total is zero, one or two he is required to draw. What the banker does for totals of three through six is determined by the player’s action. What card did the player draw? If the bankers total is three and the player draws an eight, the banker will draw a third card. If the player’s third card is a zero, one, eight or nine, and the bankers total is four, the banker is required to draw. The banker is also required to draw a third card when his total is five and the players third card draw is a four, five, six or seven. If the banker has a total of six and the player drew a six or seven for a third card, then the banker is required to draw. These are the rules of the game that have to be learned and observed. This is why baccarat is mechanical without any skill involved. If the participants don’t remember the rules of the game, the casino staff will tell them what they can and can’t do.
The game is usually played with six or eight decks of cards. The cards are shuffled and placed in a “shoe” or “sabot” in French. The banker then deals the cards, first to the player on his left. The participants then bet, based on who they think is closer to nine. If they think the player’s hand is closer to nine, they’ll bet on one of the players. If they think the banker’s hand is closer to nine, they’ll bet on the banker. If they think players and banker will have the same point total, then they bet on tie. If someone say’s “banco”, his bet takes precedence over all other bets. Banco means the gambler is betting an amount equal to the money in the bank. After the betting is done, the rest of the game is mechanical. The dealer deals the third card where required and the hand closest to nine wins. The casino staff will then payoff the winners and take the chips from the losers.
After this, the table is ready for another hand. If you walked up to the table, this is the time when you can buy chips and join the game, if there is room at the table. Even though baccarat is mechanical with each hands actions determined by the rules, it is still a lot of fun to play and generates a lot of excitement in the casino.
